Bangladeshi people pay homage at the Dhaka Central Shaheed Minar, or Martyr’s Monuments on International Mother Language Day in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Saterday, Feb. 21, 2015. International Mother Language Day is observed in commemoration of the movement where a number of students died in 1952, defending the recognition of Bangla as a state language of the former East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. The day is now observed across the world to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
